Why Heat Exchangers Fail

Apr. 26, 2018

Since heat exchangers normally move heat from water, gas or steam into other fluids or fluids, impurities and additives may result in corrosion. Based on the kind of substance used to create the heat exchanger (aluminum, steel or stainless steel), chemical additives may corrode and weaken parts of this coil, resulting in pitting or breakage. Mud, algae or other impurities becoming into heat exchangers may also lead to corrosion.

Spiral tube heat exchanger also ought to be replaced due to mechanical failure. Excessive fluid velocity within the tubes may lead to metal erosion, typically in the tube entrances or at U bends. Allergic pressure surges or leak control value issues can lead to water hammer, which may result in a rupture in the heat exchanger. Mechanical failure may also be brought on by welding defects, fabrication difficulties or tube imperfections.

A mixture of issues may also result in heat exchangers to neglect, such as a mixture of mechanical difficulties and chemically-triggered corrosion. Erosion-corrosion and corrosion-fatigue result in faster heat exchanger failure compared to mechanical or chemical difficulties happening by themselves.

Irrespective of the reason why you want to change out your heating exchanger, we are here to help. Contact us sales@dfc-tank.com now.
